Vogue Japan – “When Snow Falls”

In some countries where there is snow people have tales of women who appear when the first snowflake starts to fall from the sky. In Japan there are tales of ghosts or yokai called yuki onna which in English means “snow woman”. Scandinavian mythology also talked of Skadi, the snow goddess who waged war with the gods in Asgard. This beauty editorial from Vogue Japan, titled “When Snow Falls”, channels these legends and turns model Julia Frauche into a modern version of one of these strong and ethereal women. The French beauty is styled by Tina Chai in pieces from Mary Katrantzou, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent by Stefano Pilati and many others. The images are captured by Kenneth Willardt for Vogue Japan’s January 2013 issue.
