Vogue Japan – “Girls In The Band”
All-female bands are not really something new. In fact, The Ingenues is an all-girl jazz band who were famous from 1925 to 1937. The 60s also saw the rise of Goldie and the Gingerbreads who were the first all-female rock band who signed to a major record label. This editorial from Vogue Japan is titled “Girls In The Band” and it pays tribute to girl bands of the past by featuring female models rocking like rock stars in fabulous fashion styled by L’Uomo Vogue editor Giovanna Battaglia. The band members of this all-female band are Kel Markey, Sung Hee Kim, Ava Smith, Stina Rapp Wastenson, Tilda Lindstam, Natalia Oberhanss, Esther Heesch and Giedre Kiaulenaite and they are wearing pieces from Cushnie et Ochs, Kenzo, Marc Jacobs and many others. The styling is inspired by the looks from different eras which includes 70s glam rock and 80s hard rock. The images are lensed by photographer Sharif Hamza for Vogue Japan’s February 2013 issue.
