Vogue Italia – “Beauty Pageant”
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that doesn’t stop people from hosting and joining beauty pageants everywhere. Maybe it’s just human nature to prove to everyone that they excel in their beauty compared to other people. Maybe it’s also human nature to enjoy seeing people who are just genetically gifted. Whatever our reasons are for patronizing these pageants, we all must remember that beauty is only skin deep and what matters is our inner beauty. Then again, it sounds shallow but outer beauty is what’s important in fashion. This editorial from Vogue Italia celebrates (or parodies) the culture of beauty pageants by showing how some contestants go through to prepare to win the crown. The editorial, titled “Beauty Pageant”, shows models Jac Jagaciak, Maud Welzen, Katya Ryabinkina, Natasha Remarchuk, Irina Kravchenko, Tilda Lindstam, Juliana Schurig and Anja Konstantinova trying to stay fit by exercising and showing some poise during the coronation night in pieces selected by Karl Templer. Fashions from Louis Vuitton, Alberta Ferretti, Emporio Armani and many others are used in the shoot and the images are lensed by photographer Craig McDean for Vogue Italia’s February 2013 issue.
