Vogue Italia – “Horror Movie”
What’s your favorite scary movie? Is it one with ghostly Asian females with long jet black hair? Or is it one with serial killers and copious amounts of blood? How about those with cannibals with an appetite for human flesh? One thing is certain whenever we watch a scary movie and that is we all love watching it, but we don’t want to be in it. This editorial from Vogue Italia is titled “Horror Movie” and it takes inspiration from movies such as The Shining, Suspiria, the Japanese movie Audition and many others to create fashionable images that are chilling and controversial in some ways. Vogue Italia is no stranger to controversy and the issue this time is about the images looking like they’re glorifying domestic abuse. Editorials are subjective anyway so it’s up to you to decide if it’s just an homage to classic horror movies or a celebration of abuse.
The editorial stars male model Bernd Sassmannscausen as the dapper yet psychotic killer while models Issa Lish and Natalie Westling play the hapless and terrified victims. Karl Templer dressed the three in pieces from Ermanno Scervino, Alexander McQueen, Prada and many others. The images are lensed by Steven Meisel and are part of Vogue Italia’s April 2014 issue.
